About WOODSTOCK CONNECTICUT

Quality of life and Community Profile
Woodstock is a rural, historic community with an agricultural background, located in northeastern CT. 2012 Connecticut Magazine "Rating the Small Towns.") It has more operating dairy farms than any other town in Connecticut. There are many types of farms, craft shops, antique shops, and restaurants intermingled with light industry such as the manufacture of electrical switches, jet aircraft components, microporous plastics, fancy soaps and toiletries, fiberglass components, fine furniture and kitchen cabinets. A third of residents have college degrees, and a number of professionals run small businesses or telecommute from their homes. The scenery is spectacular, and the residents in the Quiet Corner are friendly. As of 2012, the population was 7,964. Since 2000, the population has grown by 10.29%.

Rating the Small Towns
From CT Magazine, March 2012: "The small Connecticut town is a cherished American icon. With its town green, leafy Main Street, white-steepled church and Fourth of July picnic, it's a place we all feel we know...." Their ranking of Connecticut's smallest towns compares the quality of public schools (test results from Mastery Tests, CAPT, SATs and percentage of public high school graduates who went on to college), state of the local economy (2012 Public Investment Community score based on population, per capita income, grand list, unemployment, mill rate and per capita aid to children), cost of living (median price of house), crime rate (major crimes), and local leisure and cultural resources (library expenditures, number of venues, voter turnout, good local restaurants, etc.). Out of 24 towns with populations ranging from 6,500 to 10,000, Woodstock ranked #12. Scores were: Education - 18; Crime - 1; Economy - 14, Cost - 6, Leisure - 23.
